President's Desk

Happy Fall! The frost is on the flowers and the leaves are changing, and the Hudson Valley Chapter of Log Cabin Republicans is ready for the season. Please take a look at our events calendar and join us for stimulating conversations and good times. As you know, this is an election year and we are posting endorsements for candidates on an ongoing basis. We fully support candidates that support equally rights for gay and lesbian Americans. We look forward to supporting friends like Bill Schmidt and Vinny Tamagna and others who have become friends over the years.

By the time you read this newsletter, Tuesday’s Primary Election will be over and each district will have selected their candidates. In New Rochelle, our long time friend Michael Boyle will not be running for re-election so we would like to wish him well and thank him for his years of support. I would also like to publicly thank Republican Marge Horton, a Dutchess County lawmaker, who recently voted for a county- wide domestic partner registry. Although the measure failed, Legislator Horton stood on the side of equal rights for gays and lesbians.

This Fall promises to be a very busy one for the chapter. Here is how you can get involved: First, attend an event and chat it up with other members. Second, read the newsletter and pass it on to a friend. Third, become a member. So you ask, what do I get for my membership? Well here are a few things: 1) Our chapter board works with elected officials to help move legislation; 2) Monthly events where you can meet and mingle; and 3) Great and informative web site. And this year, if you attend the Fall Barbeque for $35, you will get a year’s membership included. What could be better? See you next time. - Ingrid
